In the Spring of 2007, God started to give a group of men the desire to begin a work in the community of Tantallon. A few families from the Tantallon area that were attending various churches in and around Halifax, felt stirred to move out of their comfort zones. They decided to take a step of faith and begin a new work in the community in which they lived.

Through a series of events, God led one member of this startup group to a young man named Kamal Sampara. Kamal had recently resigned his position as a bio technologist to pursue the calling he felt to the full time Ministry of teaching people the word and how to pray. In addition to recently being ordained and speaking at many local churches and youth camps, Kamal had started a bible study at a local university. He had expected to have about a dozen people attend but within a few short weeks the attendance had risen to between fifty and sixty people. The university students were displaying a new found excitement for studying the word. As a result, lives were being changed and challenged.

On Easter Sunday 2007, the startup group decided to approach Kamal and ask him this question. “Would you be open to pray about Pastoring a new work in the fastest growing area of HRM here in Tantallon”? Kamal agreed to spend the next forty days praying about the matter and seeking God's direction. For the next forty days, Kamal and six other men from the startup group met very early every Wednesday morning seeking the Lord's direction. Everyone in the prayer group agreed that they only wanted this to happen if God was clearly in it and for it. Over the next forty days each member of the group became convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was directing them to start a new work in Tantallon.

During this time, several members of the startup group made visits to various local churches speaking to their leaders. They were continually encouraged to go ahead with the new church plant which many of the leaders felt was greatly needed in Tantallon.

The original group of men came from various backgrounds but it became apparent that God had brought them together with a burning desire to start a new work. They all shared the same passion to turn the Tantallon community upside down for Christ.

Early on it was decided that the new work should be associated with the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches across Canada. The first service took place on Canada Day, July 1, 2007. A meeting room was rented at the St. Margaret’s Bay Community Centre above the rink - Seaside Community Baptist Church was launched.

Our hope and prayer is that as we exalt Christ in this community and that people will be drawn to Him. Please pray for us as we continue to reach our community for Christ. We hope to do this by restoring lives and releasing Christians to both serve and love God as well as others.
